What You Need to Know for the Spring Semester at Georgia Tech

The start of the holiday season means the countdown to the end of the fall semester for Georgia Tech students.

But after just a few short weeks, Georgia Tech students will find themselves back in session with the start of the Spring 2023 semester. To ensure students have the critical dates in mind for the spring and summer 2023 terms at the Georgia Institute of Technology, here’s a rundown of what you need to know to prepare for the upcoming terms at Georgia Tech.

How long is winter break at Georgia Tech?

Georgia Tech students have about three weeks off for winter break, which runs from December 15th – January 8th.

How many hours is a full schedule of classes at Georgia Tech?

Georgia Tech maintains that a student must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours to be considered a full-time student.

This requirement is for the Summer and the Spring and Fall semesters, although most students do not take a full course load during the summer, if they are taking courses at all.

A full schedule of 12 credit hours amounts to four courses for the average student, but this may vary, especially for courses with lab components that take up more than three credit hours.

The naming convention of courses indicates the number of credits offered. A three-digit code identifies each course. The first number represents the number of lecture hours, the second number represents the number of laboratory hours, and the third represents the number of credit hours. For example, a course labeled 302 consists of 3 hours of lecture and 0 hours of laboratory work and is worth two credit hours.

Some scholarship and grant programs require students to maintain a full-time schedule as part of the financial award. Students are advised to check the credit hour requirements of any financial aid or award programs offered, in addition to departmental requirements, to ensure they are on track for graduation.

The week after spring break, registration opens for Summer 2023 registration, beginning on March 27th. Summer registration runs through May 19th.

Does Georgia Tech have midterms?
